When Papenburger Meyer-Werft was looking for a partner to supply components for its own compressor construction department in the Mid-1980s, they couldn’t even dream that that search would end in Neuenhauser Maschinenbau GmbH successfully taking over all compressor production. That is what happened on 1 October 1986, however, marking the hour of the birth of Neuenhauser Kompressorenbau GmbH (in short: NK). At the same time, it started the development of today's group of companies with more than 2,800 employees and about two dozens of group companies by now.
For 30 years, NK has seen itself as the only provider in the world to be able to offer a complete product range of starting air and working air facilities with up to 60 bar operating pressure. This includes air- and water-cooled compressors of all sizes, self-produced compressed air tans and compressed air starters for large engines. Compressors and compressed air facilities for ship construction only account for about one fifth of the production. This is even though they offer anything from cruising giants to offshore oil suppliers. 70 to 80 percent of the units are produced for power plants and engineering facilities. "That is a global niche market on which one must be very internationally aligned," says NK business area manager Ralf Steenweg. Whether on an oil platform in the North Sea, the government palace in Nigeria, a floating power plant in Turkey or the airport of Dschidda – NK compressed air facilities from Neuenhaus are in use around the world. "Our products are usually individual solutions. There are no limits," says project manager Matthias Berling.
90 percent of the products, produced by 30 own employees and nearly the same number again in suppliers of Neuenhauser Group, are exported.
The compressor constructors are moving again for their 30th anniversary: They will take over and expand the buildings of the group company hpl-Neugnadenfelder in Neugnadenfeld. "We need space," says business area manager Ralf Steenweg. Neuenhauser Kompressorenbau GmbH wants to keep on growing and increasing its quality.
